International Education USA (IEUSA) is a private boarding high school in Shanghai, China.  Classes are all taught in English with a U.S. curriculum.  The mission of the school is to prepare students for a high school semester in the U.S. and admission to a U.S. university.  IEUSA will be the first NTN school in China beginning with the 2015-2016 school year and the demonstration hub for future New Tech Network schools in China.

New Tech Network (NTN), a national non-profit organization with offices in California, engages with public school districts and charter school organizations to develop innovative K-12 schools in the U.S.  Schools in the Network are centered on a culture that empowers, teaching that engages, and technology that enables so that students graduate ready for college and career. The Network currently consists of 160 public and charter schools in urban, rural, and suburban communities in the U.S. and Australia.   





The Academic Dean/PBL Coach is responsible for the administration of all academic activities of International Education USA (IEUSA), including curricular and extracurricular offerings and scheduling; student admissions, assessments, reports and transcripts; teacher coaching, training and consulting services that yield improved student learning outcomes through the implementation of U.S. Common Core Standards, New Tech Network Design Principles, and cultural competencies.  The Academic Dean/PBL Coach serves as on-site principal of the 400-student high school in the principal’s absence and coordinator of the semester abroad program. 


  • Develop course offerings consistent with US curriculum and standards  

  • Provide timetables for each class in collaboration with grade-level teams 

  • Oversee admissions process, including English language assessments and minimum acceptance scores  

  • Coordinate administration of IEUSA mid-term and final exams, TOFEL and ACT tests 

  • Provide coaching, training, and consulting services to IEUSA leadership and staff to foster the core practices and principles of the New Tech model in areas of culture, pedagogy and use of technology 

  • Collaborate with New Tech Network to align instructional and school coaching  

  • Assist IEUSA in developing a collaborative, professional environment that uses data-driven, decision-making protocols, reflective practices, and critical analysis to ensure continuous school  improvement 

  • Assist New Tech teachers in the development and implementation of standards-based, rigorous and relevant project-based-learning (PBL) units measured against specified quality benchmarks 

  • Speak with accuracy, authority and confidence about the key aspects of the New Tech Design Principles, and develop/conduct trainings and presentations within China for prospective NTN schools  

  • Provide day-to-day support and training of the NTN Learning Management System at IEUSA 

  • Actively contribute to the NTN online professional environment by developing resources, reviewing submitted projects/resources, and identifying/collecting best practices from throughout the network 

  • Assist with the coordination of IEUSA’s semester abroad program with U.S. sister school(s) and other educational travel opportunities for students to improve student learning and cultural competency  

  • Assist in the planning, development and implementation of professional development events in China 

  • Assist with the coordination of and collection of data for NTN evaluation process 

  • Serve as on-site principal of IEUSA in principal’s/assistant principal’s absence 


  • Bachelor’s degree (required), Master’s degree (preferred) 

  • Teaching certificate or administrative credential  

  • Five or more years of teaching or administrative experience  

  • Experience teaching and/or providing leadership in a project-based learning environment (required);  time working in a New Tech school (desirable)   

  • Ability to model New Tech values at all times   

  • Highly skilled in inquiry-based instructional practices with strong consulting and coaching capabilities 

  • Experience in infusing technology into the classroom as a learning tool 

  • Evidence of successful organization of and implementation of staff development activities  

  • Ability to identify problems and effectively gather resources to create a solution 

  • Prior experience as an instructional or leadership coach or trainer (preferred) 

  • Highly skilled in driving to results through planning & execution, critical thinking and problem solving, and effective decision-making processes 

  • Ability to work and lead in a dynamic, flexible, fast-paced environment 

  • Ability to develop strong relationships with various constituencies within and outside of the New Tech Network and IEUSA 

  • A clearly-articulated vision that influences stakeholders and delicately balances oversight with support 

  • Ability to travel and acclimate to a new environment and culture 


Must be able to interact and collaborate effectively with others on a regular basis. Those people include, but are not limited to, the CEO, students, and employees at all levels of the organization; parents, school partners, other organizations, potential students and parents, vendors and visitors. 



This position has access to sensitive and confidential information, and is trusted to maintain this information, files and documents properly. These documents include, but are not limited to, financial information, student data, teacher evaluation, client proprietary information and other business related material. Failure to safeguard this information could result in loss of trust and reputation internally and externally. 



Low physical effort required to sit, stand at files, bend, stoop, lift, and walk.  Maximum unassisted lift = 35lbs.  Requires ability to use a keyboard, monitor and calculator. Also requires the ability to communicate verbally, both in person and on the telephone.  



Inside average office environment. Average office noise levels. No personal protective equipment required.
